The Word in Song  – Strumming My Pain with His Love

Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 4 Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church.   8 Again, if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle? 9 So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? 10 You will just be speaking into the air. Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. 15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding. 20 Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. Yes,

There is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined. Mortals put an end to the darkness; they search out the farthest recesses for ore in the blackest darkness. People assault the flinty rock with their hands and lay bare the roots of the mountains. They tunnel through the rock; their eyes see all its treasures. They search the sources of the rivers and bring hidden things to light. But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? The deep says, “It is not in me”; the sea says, “It is not with me.” Destruction and Death say, “Only a rumor of it has reached our ears.” God understands the way to it and He alone knows where it dwells, when He made a decree for the rain and a path for the thunderstorm, then He looked at wisdom and appraised it; He confirmed it and tested it. Listen then!

Raise a banner on a bare hilltop, shout to them; beckon to them to enter the gates of the nobles. Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The Lord Almighty is mustering an army for war. Wail, for the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty. Because of this, all hands will go limp, every heart will melt with fear. I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless. See, I will stir up against them the Medes, who do not care for silver and have no delight in gold.  Isaiah 13:2, 4, 6-7, 11, 17 NIV

Father God,

Don’t put off today what you may not be able to do tomorrow.

God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This He did when a long time later He spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.  Hebrews 4:7, 11-13 NIV

Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in His temple all cry, “Glory!” The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever.
